SLBMI
offers various levels of Eating Disorders Treatment:
Individual
Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy is the most commonly used
form of treatment. It consists of regular sessions with
an individual therapist who specializes in the treatment
of eating disorders. The therapist will also refer the
individual to providers within the Institute or community
providers, who can offer adjunct help, such as family
therapy, nutritional counseling, psychiatric evaluation,
and medical management.
The
goal of treatment is to alter unhealthy eating practices
such as dieting, binge eating, purging via self-induced
vomiting or laxative abuse, and excessive exercise.
Treatment also focuses on enhancing self-esteem, modifying
disturbances in thinking, feeling, and behaving.
Eating
Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program (ED IOP)
- 6-day (day/evening/weekend IOP)
- 4-day (evening/weekend IOP)
The ED IOP, located at our West County office, is designed for individuals who have a more severe eating disorder and require more extensive treatment. The 6-day ED IOP meets for three hours a day, five days/evening during the week and for two hours on Saturday mornings. [view
IOP Schedule] The 4-day (evening/weekend IOP) is available based on clinical evaluation.
The schedule is broken into one hour groups covering a variety of topics. We utilize psycho-educational, cognitive-behavioral and expressive therapies. One hour each day consists of a therapeutic meal supervised by a staff member. A licensed clinician who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders runs each group.
The ED IOP is based on the latest research on the treatment of eating disorders. We support a multidisciplinary approach, which means we are in frequent contact with other healthcare providers such as your Dietitian, psychiatrist, pediatrician or internist.
Goal-setting and follow-through are important components of our approach, which simultaneously underlines the importance of accountability, and the need for you to be in control of the direction and speed of your recovery, as much as possible.
The ED IOP is an in-network facility for many insurance companies. For more information, please call 636-532-9188.
Who
should participate in the ED IOP?
Individuals
who:
- Require
supervised meals in order to recover
- Have
not progressed in outpatient treatment
- Highly
resistant pattern of binge eating and purging
- Are
unable to prevent weight loss
- Need
group treatment to support individual/family therapy
- Need
supportive structure after residential treatment or
hospitalization
Individuals
who attend the ED IOP are expected to be in individual
and/or family therapy at the same time. They also need
to be working with a physician who will monitor their
health. Our program can assist in finding individuals
to work with you.
