New Patient Information>> General
Information
Registration
Upon your first visit to the Institute,
you will be asked to register as a new patient
before seeing your clinician. Please bring
your insurance card.
Initial
Visit
The initial visit is generally for the purpose
of conducting an assessment to determine
your treatment needs. It may include a recommendation
for a higher level of care such as intensive
outpatient treatment, day hospital or hospitalization.
Referrals to other clinicians may also be
recommended. While most assessments are
completed in one session, additional sessions
may be necessary before agreeing upon a
course of treatment.
Insurance
We
work closely with patients, families, agency
representatives, insurance companies and
managed care networks to determine all possible
payment options. We are an approved provider
for most major insurance companies and managed
care systems.
What are my options besides insurance?
1. See an SLBMI clinician by using your out-of-network benefit
If you have insurance but our therapist is not a member of your insurance company’s panel of clinicians, you may still be able to use your out-of-network benefit. This benefit allows you to see a provider who is not in the company’s network. However, you will have to pay a higher deductible or co-pay amount than the amount you would pay if you were to see an in-network provider.
2. See an SLBMI clinician by paying out of pocket
If you do not have or elect not to use insurance, you can pay for services out of pocket. Your provider can estimate the type, frequency, and duration of services you will need so that you can anticipate what your treatment will cost. Individuals with limited funding sometimes seek a loan from relatives or friends. Some financial institutions now offer medical loans.
3. See an SLBMI resident at a reduced rate
Residents are psychologists-in-training who have earned their doctoral degree and completed all other requirements for licensure except their last year of postdoctoral specialty training. All SLBMI residents are supervised by an SLBMI licensed psychologist. You can pay out of pocket to see a resident for a reduced rate. Ask our billing office for more information.
4. Participate in research trials providing low cost or free care
SLBMI and other area academic facilities conduct treatment research. For the duration of the study, the cost of treatment is sometimes covered by a grant that is funding the research. You can ask our intake personnel if they know of any treatment studies currently being conducted on your conditions.
5. See a non-SLBMI clinician who offers a sliding scale fee
Some organizations are able to offer a sliding scale fee. This type of fee is based on the amount you can afford to pay. Unfortunately, SLBMI does not receive subsidies necessary to offer a sliding scale fee. However, several clinics in the St. Louis area do offer services at these reduced rates. Our intake office can give you a list of facilities offering a sliding scale.
