Managing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Is it hard for you to sit still? Do you act without thinking first? Do you start but not finish things? Do you have a hard time staying on task at work? If so, you may have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which expresses itself through intense distractibility, impulsivity and hyperactivity. Nearly everyone shows some of these behaviors at times, but ADHD lasts more than 6 months and causes problems in school, at home, at work, and in social situations.

Helping People with ADHD

After a comprehensive assessment, we develop individualized treatment plans that often focus on achieving the behavior change necessary for emotional and social development (and academic development, where relevant). Data from multiple sources are integrated and summarized, and results and recommendations are communicated to the patient (or child and parents, school if relevant, and your physician if relevant).

Treatment plans can include:

  • Education about ADHD
  • Management training
  • Stimulant medication
  • Self-control training
  • Parent-teacher collaboration (for youth) Treatment for ADHD

Please note that if you are an adult who thinks you might have ADHD and you are wanting to see a psychiatrist for medication management of ADHD, you will be required to complete a formal assessment process first to ensure that the diagnosis of ADHD is appropriate. To begin treatment, call us and we will work with you to complete the assessment necessary to determine if you are struggling with ADHD.
