Ryan Abraham, PsyD
Dr. Ryan Abraham is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Program for Psychology and Religion. He earned his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. He works primarily with adults and has experience in treating a variety of presenting problems. Dr. Abraham has experience and training in helping individuals with issues related to anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress and other trauma related concerns, depression, relationship problems, stress management, and life transitions. Dr. Abraham values the importance of developing a strong trusting therapeutic relationship. He encourages collaboration in creating individualized treatment goals that encourage living a more meaningful and valued life unencumbered by mental health obstacles. He is trained to utilize an array of evidenced based psychotherapy approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Dr. Abraham also received specialized training integrating spirituality and religion with evidenced based psychotherapy approaches during his graduate studies. He is skilled in helping individuals utilize their spirituality and religion to assist with improving mental health as well as working with spiritual and religiously based concerns including issues associated with working in ministry settings.

Elim Allee, LPC Clinical, Gender Affirming Program
Elim Allee is a licensed professional counselor in the Gender Affirming Program. They attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR, earning an MA in Professional Mental Health Counseling and a certificate in Ecopsychology. Elim is dedicated to providing culturally specific and informed counseling services to those who identify with queer and trans identities. Their work pulls from several approaches to therapy, including psychodynamic, somatic experiencing, and Relational-Cultural Theory. They hold a foundational belief that trusting relationships are essential to wellbeing. This includes the therapeutic relationship, which they intend to approach with openness and humility.
Bonnie Applewhite, M.D.
Bonnie Applewhite, M.D. is an adult psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. Dr. Applewhite attended Washington University in St. Louis for her undergraduate degree, where she achieved her bachelor’s degree with honors in Spanish and International Studies. She received an achievement award for Spanish and belonged to a variety of honor societies such as Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi, Golden Key International Honour Society and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Dr. Applewhite earned her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and was granted an achievement award in both Psychiatry and Infectious Disease at graduation. Dr. Applewhite completed her Psychiatry Residency at Washington University School of Medicine.
She subsequently achieved her board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Applewhite also combines a strong academic background in the humanities with her medical education and research experience to forge a comprehensive biopsychosocial approach to mental health treatment. She has researched new medications for Parkinson’s Disease and written a book chapter on movement disorders. She has also been involved in collaborative models of healthcare delivery between internal medicine and psychiatric providers. Dr. Applewhite has integrated her foreign language abilities, study of international affairs and experiences abroad to create a culturally-competent and inclusive practice. Though Dr. Applewhite treats a variety of conditions, areas of special interest include gender, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, anxiety disorders, neuropsychiatry and the integration of psychiatry and internal medicine.

Victoria B. Ayden, M.D.
Dr. Ayden is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute and an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. She is dual board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Ayden specializes in the areas of eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and ADHD. She has treated patients in a wide variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, residential, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, and outpatient, and has cared for many elite athletes and student-athletes.
She completed her General Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine, where she was chief fellow during her last year of fellowship. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University. While in university, she was an NCAA Division I student-athlete and with her team won a Big Ten Championship and competed in the NCAA Final Four. She earned her medical degree from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and while there, she led medical student seminars on the Mind-Body connection and was a tutor in the courses of Histology and Neuroanatomy. She continues to have an interest in Integrative Psychiatry and is pursuing further training in this field.

Rachel Barnholtz, LCSW
Rachel earned her master’s degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996 She is a licensed clinical social worker working in the Health Psychology program. The majority of her career has been in the mental health field. More recently she provided psychotherapy in an outpatient neurology clinic in St.Louis wiith patients diagnosed with various neurological conditions. Patients as well as caregivers were seen who were experiencing issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship issues and trauma history. Treatment modalities included Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Client Centered Therapy and Mindfulness. Her genuine and empathic personality have provided positive therapeutic relationships. It is this relationship that has provided the foundation for successful outcomes for her clients.
Kristen Beatty, LCSW
Kristen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders (COARD). She earned her Masters in Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis specializing in Clinical Mental Health. Kristen uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in sessions. She uses Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in treating trauma survivors. She has experience working with adolescents and adults as well as facilitating groups. Kristen treats a variety of conditions; areas of special interest include OCD and related disorders, Anxiety, mood disorders, perfectionism, and gender/LGBTQ+ issues as well as intersection of OCD and trauma-related disorders.
Kristen believes that every individual has the innate power to be the author of their own life story. More importantly, she believes that all individuals have the power and ability to change the trajectory of their story to align with their core values and inner truths. Kristen uses person-centered and empowerment lenses to cultivate a strong therapeutic relationship.
Jessica Burich, PMHNP-BC
Jessica Burich is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who can be found at both Macklind and Chesterfield locations. She obtained her master’s degree from Maryville University in St. Louis and is currently board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to treat patients in Missouri. She obtained her nursing license from Goldfarb School of Nursing and has been working in behavioral health since 2014. Jessica works with patients across the life span and particular enjoys working with adolescence, young adults and individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. She has worked in a variety of behavioral health settings including inpatient, residential, and outpatient care. She specializes in treating depression, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, and has nearly 10 years of experience of working with individuals with eating disorders. Jessica’s goal in providing care is to help her patients feel heard and work together to find a treatment plan that best fits her patient’s needs.

Cara Capuano, LCSW
Cara Capuano is a licensed clinical social worker in the Reproductive Mental Health Program. She earned her Master of Social Work degree, with a school social work specialization, from Saint Louis University in 2004. Cara is a Preeclampsia/HELLP Syndrome survivor and wounded healer. Educated as a Generalist, she has attained over 20 years of experience serving women, adolescents, transplant recipients and donors, adults, older adults and caregivers across a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, homes and care facilities. Cara has expertise in crisis intervention, medical social work, care management, aging, caregiver coaching and dementia evaluation and education. Professional interests encompass perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, maternal mortality, trauma, grief, interpersonal relationships, end-of-life care, memory impairment and positive aging. In treatment, several types of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy are employed. Cara utilizes a holistic and strengths-based perspective, providing person-centered therapy. She seeks to create a safe, welcoming space and natural partnership between therapist and client in order to achieve mutually agreed upon goals and resulting personal growth. Claudia Charles, PhD, LCSW
Director, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program
Claudia earned her B.A. in Psychology and French in 1986, her M.A. in Human Development Counseling in 1990 and her Ph.D. in Family Therapy in 2016 all from Saint Louis University. Her early experience as a therapist was in families and couples. She has extensive history working with undergraduate and graduate students’ mental health focusing on anxiety, depression, and relational issues and eating concerns. She also has experience working with individuals dealing with trauma. She has received extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and has experience working in this modality. Dr. Charles has received training with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Health Behavior and Wellness Coaching. Areas of interest include: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship and Family Issues, Eating Disorders, Trauma, Culture and Diversity issues.

Vivian Chi, M.D.
Dr. Chi, M.D. is an adult psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She completed her medical degree and general psychiatry residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She earned her bachelor’s degree in stem cell biology from Harvard University. Dr. Chi has clinical expertise in a broad range of psychiatric illnesses, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance use. She is board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Mari Chimitris, M.A.
Mari Chimitris, M.A., is a Postgraduate Fellow with the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD). She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before earning a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Mari completed her clinical internship here at SLBMI with COARD’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Her experience has primarily been working with adolescents and adults, specifically those struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), interpersonal relationships, and transitions across the lifespan. Mari’s treatment approach primarily draws from cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based therapies.

Kathy Corn, LCPC
Ms. Corn is a master’s level licensed psychologist. She works with children, adolescents and adults with anxiety disorders, mood/depressive disorders (including bi-polar disorder), autism/Asperger’s disorder, ADHD/ADD and other mental health problems. Her clinical approach is insight oriented and cognitive behavioral techniques. She received her masters of arts in clinical psychology from Eastern Illinois University in 1984. She has completed specialist training in anxiety disorders from St. Louis School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior in 1986. Ms. Corn practices primarily at the office in Belleville, Illinois. She is coauthor of the article entitled, “Panic Onset and Major Events in the Lives of Agoraphobics” in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

Margaret Cornell, Psy.D.
Dr. Margaret Cornell is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before obtaining her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adler University (Chicago Campus).
Dr. Cornell is an integral part of the Integrated Care Consulting Team and serves as the Associate Director of Integrated Care. She specializes in guiding organizations and Behavioral Health Consultants through the complex process of integrating behavioral health services into primary care. Dr. Cornell also specializes in depression and anxiety and utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She is dedicated to helping patients enhance their functioning and overall quality of life.

Malinda Dale, Ph.D.

Bronwen DiAntonio, Ph.D.
Dr. DiAntonio is a licensed psychologist and staff member of the Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program. She specializes in assisting women with concerns related to reproduction, including postpartum depression, pregnancy, miscarriage, infertility, and adjustment to life with young children. Dr. DiAntonio uses cognitive behavioral therapy in a supportive context. She helps clients identify what they want to change and then develop the skills to make that change happen.She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1999. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at University of Oregon Counseling Center and her post-doctoral training at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She ran a private practice in St. Louis for ten years, focusing on reproductive mental health. She has attended advanced clinical training in postpartum depression with a nationally known expert in Philadelphia.
In addition to her primary interest in reproductive mental health, Dr. DiAntonio also treats women and men for a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, and life balance. She has extensive experience with college and graduate students, and offers dissertation coaching. She is a member of the American Psychological Association.

Lisa Dierdorf, LPC
Lisa Dierdorf is a licensed professional counselor providing therapy with the Health Psychology Program. She graduated in 2012 with a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and in 2014 earned a two-year certificate of completion in Analytical Psychotherapy from the C.G. Jung Institute in Chicago. She is currently a student at The Portland Institute of Loss and Transition where she is working toward certification in complicated grief therapy. Ms. Dierdorf utilizes an eclectic approach to psychotherapy, drawing from diverse schools of thought depending on the needs of her client. Her primary approach to psychotherapy is rooted in existential and person-centered techniques. Ms. Dierdorf has worked in community mental health, on suicide and crisis hotlines, in private practice and has over 12 years of combined volunteer and work experience in hospice where she provided grief counseling and spiritual support to both patients and their families. Ms. Dierdorf acknowledges that anxiety, depression, and grief is uncomfortable and often painful. She encourages her clients to grant themselves the same understanding and compassion that they freely grant to others. Ms. Dierdorf is passionate in her belief that human suffering needs to be validated and deserves to be witnessed.
Acacia Douglas, LMFT
Acacia is a licensed marriage and family therapist, with a specialization in medical family therapy, earning her masters degree from St Louis University School of Medicine. Acacia specializes in the areas of couple and family dynamics, chronic illness, grief, caregiver support, life transitions, and LGBTQ+ populations. Focusing on systems that impact everyone, such as family, work, and social environments, she works collaboratively to build a custom treatment plan to support her patients in overcoming obstacles, reaching goals, and thriving in their own personal growth. Acacia’s specialization in medical family therapy allows her to work closely with primary care physicians and hospitals, helping to bridge the gap between mental and physical healthcare.

Dr. Deb Elliott-DeSorbo is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her undergraduate education at Rutgers University before obtaining a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University.
Deb specializes in the areas of gender, sexuality, health psychology, integrated care, military (she was once an active duty clinical psychologist), marital therapy and trauma. She also has a passion for working with geriatric patients. She primarily utilizes a mix of cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy but brings in techniques from many other schools of thought when they are of assistance to a client. She is passionate about what she does and wants nothing more than to help her clients succeed in their goals (both therapy goals and life goals). She is the Director of both the Health Psychology Program and the Gender Affirming Program for Transgender and Individuals with Non-Binary Identities, and serves as the Institute’s Training Director.
Christina Fales, Ph.D.
Christina Fales, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in the DBT program at SLBMI, and an adjunct in the Psychology and Religion program. She graduated in 2004 with a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from University of California, Los Angeles, and received postgraduate training in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis. Her academic publications have focused on the brain basis for anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. More recently Dr. Fales received further postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology at Fielding Graduate University, with training in CBT and psychodynamic approaches to treatment. Currently she specializes in the treatment of emotion dysregulation in adults and older adolescents, using cognitive approaches and mindfulness meditation. Additional interests include treatment of trauma and the effects of childhood trauma and poverty on the brain.

Matt Fanning, LCSW
Matt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with an array of experiences working with marginalized, vulnerable, and emerging adult populations. Matt has earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from University of Missouri-Saint Louis (UMSL) and Bachelor’s in General Studies at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO).
Matt worked with Gender Expansive Queer Youth at a local St. Louis agency, Growing American Youth (GAY). Matt had the privilege to work with client’s who have experienced trauma that resulted from the intersections of their identities, and relationship & sexual violence.
Matt takes an integrated, client centered approach to psychotherapy which is steeped in a strength-based and person in environment philosophy that promotes recovery, resiliency, and post-traumatic growth. Matt is trained in various treatment modalities from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), to Integrated Treatment for Complex Trauma (ITCT), which is holds an national certification, Trauma-Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), in which he is rostered in Missouri, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
Shannon Fischer, LPC
Shannon Fischer earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2019. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. Shannon has experience working in community mental health as well as private practice working with a variety of clinical concerns. Shannon has a professional interest in anxiety, self-esteem and life transitions. She has an eclectic approach integrating a person-centered approach with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy.
Randy Flanery, PhD
Randall C. Flanery, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Program for Psychology and Religions and in the Eating Disorders Program. He earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1983.
He has long been interested in incorporating psychological and spiritual perspectives in achieving recovery in mental health. He is committed to providing cutting edge, empirically supported treatments, and is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Specific treatment interests of his are: evidence-based treatments of depression, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other variants of eating disorders. He also has a broad background in the treatment of a variety of childhood and adolescent conditions and helping individuals achieve lifetime healthy weight management. A particular interest is tailoring treatment for eating disorders and weight control concerns to accommodate the unique perspectives of males with those conditions.
He is an adjunct associate professor of Family Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, and the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals, for which he is also an approved supervisor. He is a past associate editor and current reviewer of PsyCritiques, an online journal of reviews. He is a frequent speaker to professional and public groups.

Seda Follis, LMSW
Seda is a Postgraduate Fellow with the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD). She earned her master’s in social work degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a concentration in family practice, as she transitioned to her second profession. While serving in various roles leading analytics teams in her prior profession, she recognized that her biggest joy came from helping others and was energized by making a positive impact in others’ lives. Her two core values are courage and learning. These values guide her in aligning different modalities as she welcomes and meets her clients where they are on their unique journeys.
Seda believes that every human being deserves respect and the opportunity to live to their fullest potential in our interconnected world. She takes a holistic approach in helping adolescents and adults who are dealing with anxiety-related disorders, depression, grief, life transitions, stress, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. She is an advocate and an ally for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and other marginalized groups in society. Her role in therapeutic relationships is to be a service to her clients and help them her clients connect to their individual strengths in the context of their inner and external environments and resources.
Rebekah Freese, LCSW, PhD
Dr. Rebekah Freese holds a Masters of Social Work (MSW) as well as a Doctorate degree in Philosophy from the University of Missouri. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker of the State of Missouri. She has treated individuals with an array of eating disorders, trauma, and BPD since 1997.
Rebekah has a strong commitment to work with those who experience high severity of life-threatening behaviors especially youth and young adults. She has extensive training in evidenced based practice Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Prolonged Exposure (PE) as well as the combination of DBT-PE. She is a member of the DBT consult team and facilitates one of the outpatient skills groups for the DBT program. She has proficiency in clinical program development, management, and growth as well as quality assurance and program evaluation. She is enthusiastic about her work and strives to assist her clients in developing balance and compassion in their lives.
She is actively involved in her community to advocate for education, social justice and awareness for mental health care and accessibility. She is a current volunteer for CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children. She was a former expert practitioner for the Show-Me Disordered Eating and Eating Disorder ECHO. The ECHO connects interdisciplinary teams of experts with primary care providers to develop advanced skills and best practices. She was a member of the Missouri Eating Disorders Association (MOEDA) from 2021-2023 and served as board President in 2022. In her personal life, she enjoys hiking, reading, gardening, and spending time with family.
Kierstin Godier, LCSW
Kierstin Godier, MSW, LCSW, is a social worker with the Eating Disorder Program. She completed her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and parents in outpatient and residential settings. Kierstin has extensive experience working with individuals and groups using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Kierstin also has experience with treating trauma as it co-occurs with other diagnoses in children and young adults. Kierstin`s professional interests include trauma, eating disorders, and intimate partner violence. Kierstin approaches every client using an empowerment lens to facilitate a strong therapeutic alliance.
Sydney Greenwalt, PhD
Dr. Sydney Greenwalt is a licensed psychologist in the Gender Affirming Program. She earned her Masters in Clinical Adult Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Kansas. Sydney utilizes an integrative approach, drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy. She values a therapeutic relationship rooted in genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. Sydney aims to create corrective emotional experiences through therapy to help clients understand themselves in new and unexpected ways. She particularly enjoys working LGBTQ+ clients, exploring socialization processes and environmental impact in resilience and adaptation.
Sofia Grewal, MD
Sofia Grewal, M.D. completed her psychiatry residency and geriatric fellowship at St. Louis University School of Medicine. Prior to joining St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, she has been treating patients across St. Louis in her private practice and provided inpatient and outpatient care in local hospitals. Dr. Grewal has experience in treating depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders. She is trained in psychopharmacology and various modalities in treating a range of mood disorders, substance abuse disorders, and psychotic disorders. Her specialty interest is in geriatric psychiatry, where she has provided care to residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities in the St. Louis area. She is board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Christopher Grimes, PsyD
Director, Psychology and Religion Program
Dr. Christopher Grimes is the Director of the Program for Psychology and Religion at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at St. Louis University School of Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in 2004. Dr. Grimes has particular interest and training in the assessment and treatment of clergy, religious, and people of faith. He also maintains a general outpatient caseload providing individual therapy, couple/family therapy, and psychological testing services at the Behavioral Medicine Institute. Dr. Grimes is licensed to practice psychology in the State of Missouri and is credentialed through the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). His professional memberships include the American Psychological Association, the Missouri Psychological Association, and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. He is active in research and writing in the area of religion / spirituality and psychological wellness.

Mallory Hamel, MSW, LCSW

Trained as a generalist, she is pursuing certification in Perinatal Mental Health to better support all parents regardless of gender or status. Dr. Mishell Hashmi is the Director of the Eating Disorder program and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern University in 2007. She has extensive experience working with eating disorders in Residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient settings. Dr. Hashmi uses an integrated approach and is experienced in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Hashmi has also completed training in Family Based Therapy (FBT) for eating disorders, Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Jennifer Henry is a licensed professional counselor in the General Psychology Program. She completed her undergraduate studies at Drury University before earning her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Jennifer has over 20 years of experience working with college students within a university setting. She has vast experience working with adults in areas such as anxiety, depression, body image concerns, relational issues, grief, and trauma. Jennifer employs an eclectic approach to therapy, often utilizing a person-centered or cognitive-behavioral approach. She believes that every individual has worth and value and is passionate about helping her clients regain their sense of hope and stability. Dr. Pollard is Founding Director of the Center for OCD & Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD) and Professor Emeritus of Family and Community Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He graduated in 1981 from the California School of Professional Psychology-San Diego with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and received postdoctoral training in anxiety disorders at the Behavior Therapy Unit at Temple University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Pollard is a licensed psychologist who works with a range of obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related disorders, with a special interest in patients ambivalent about or resistant to therapy. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board of the International OCD Foundation and chairs the organization’s national training initiative: the Behavior Therapy Training Institute. Dr. Pollard also serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Canadian Institute for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders and the Obsessive-Compulsive Cognitions Working Group research collaborative, and is former chair of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Lauren Raczkowski, LCSW
Lauren is a clinical social worker and earned her master’s degree in social work from Temple University. She spent 16 years working in Philadelphia’s child welfare system both as a social worker and in leadership. She has experience with international adoption and early clinical experience working with children and families. Lauren spent three years as a social work instructor at SIUE and has transitioned to full time clinical practice. She has experience as a children’s trauma therapist and is EMDR trained. She has a passion for trauma-focused/informed therapy and generalist intervention to include anxiety, interpersonal relationships, life changes/transitions, marital concerns and parenting. Madelyn Rosenthal, M.A., is a Postgraduate Fellow with the Eating Disorder Program. She earned her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology with a specialization in Diversity and Social Justice in 2021 and her M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 2023 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Madelyn completed a year-long clinical externship at St. Louis University School of Medicine where she administered and scored neuropsychological assessment of both outpatients and inpatients with various medical and psychological conditions, such as dementia, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, functional seizures, ADHD, PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Madelyn’s professional and research interests include eating disorders, body image, internalized weight stigma, intuitive eating, and novel approaches for assessment and diagnosis. Patrice Ryan, PhD
Dr. Ryan is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in both Missouri and Tennessee, where she maintained a solo practice for 15 years. Dr. Ryan serves as the Director of the Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program at SLBMI. She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1994. She has a Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of North Texas. Since 1994, Dr. Ryan has provided a wide array of mental health treatment to individuals, couples, older children, adolescents and couples. She has treated children in foster care and their foster parents; collegiate athletes; women and couples undergoing fertility treatments and/or experiencing high risk pregnancies or recovering from pregnancy loss. Over the years she has kept a general practice, treating anxiety; depression; eating disorder and weight management cases; stress management; trauma; relationship issues; career and work-related problems; grief; and relaxation training. From 2002 until 2010 she was the on-site provider of mental health services for employees of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee through their Employee Assistance Program. In this setting she provided individual counseling, management consultation, and conducted numerous psycho-educational lectures to employees on topics ranging from adjustment to change, helping a colleague through trauma, weight management, and stress awareness and relaxation training.

As a student, Lindsey completed internships focused on substance misuse prevention and trauma-informed services for sex trafficking survivors; her coursework included training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Lindsey’s therapeutic approach combines evidence-based methods with compassionate, client-centered care.

Dr Paul Simon is a general psychiatrist who joined SLBMI in 2021. He has a wide range of professional interests including adolescent, adult, and geriatric mental health issues. He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 followed by a residency in general psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. He also has an undergraduate degree in psychology and a masters degree in social science administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board certified
in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Through his work with the Missouri Psychiatric Physicians Association, he has been active in political advocacy and founded a political action committee. Torri is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and licensed to practice in Missouri, having obtained her nursing license from the Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis. Melanie VanDyke, PhD
Melanie VanDyke earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2002 and has extensive experience in evidence-based treatments for anxiety-related disorders, including OCD, hoarding, social anxiety, BDD, and Tourette syndrome. At Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, she assesses and treats individuals and their families, and served as the Director of Postdoctoral Education. At the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, Dr. VanDyke teaches pre-healthcare students how to critically read research and explores how to improve health outcomes and student learning. She was awarded “Outstanding Woman in Leadership in 2020,” and her recent research highlights the risks of medication hoarding during the opioid epidemic, including medication adherence problems and potential suicide risks. This research includes collaborations with UMSL and Trinity College Dublin to develop assessment tools for Medication Saving Behaviors (medication hoarding) and introduces students to interdisciplinary research.
Dr. VanDyke enjoys being an active professional psychologist. She is the Chair of the Evidence-Based Practice committee at Missouri Psychological Association (MOPA), where Dr. VanDyke presented her clinical work on social anxiety disorder and cultural humility. She is also an active member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America’s (ADAA) Public Education Committee. Dr. VanDyke works to make treatment information accessible and is looking forward to training clinicians on consultation with families who are struggling with a loved one who refuses to seek mental health care.
Michele Vining, LPC
Michele Vining is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Missouri, a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois. She received her masters of arts degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University. Michele has many years of clinical experience working with families; couples, adults, and adolescents with mental illness and other presenting concerns. She specializes in working with eating disorders, addictions, trauma, and victims of and perpetrators of domestic violence. She has experience working with groups and individuals in residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient eating disorders programs; behavioral health settings; and with substance abuse treatment and after-care. She utilizes a variety of treatment modalities with a concentration of cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy. She provides a compassionate and empathetic approach with her style of therapy. She is a member of the Southern Illinois Counseling Association/Lewis and Clark Chapter.

Eileen Vollmer, LPC
Eileen Vollmer, LPC is an IOP coordinator and also leads IOP therapy groups. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Relations/Elementary Education from The University of Arizona in Tucson, studied Biblical Counseling at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis and graduated with her Masters degree in Counseling from Lindenwood University, Belleville. Eileen is also a Certified Professional Wellness Coach and has owned her own nutrition coaching business since 2009 working with individuals and groups to implement healthy lifestyle practices. Eileen has been an educator for over 30 years teaching at all grade levels in public, private and homeschool settings. She places a high priority on connecting with clients, meeting them where they as well as challenging them to reach their potential.

Michael Wefelmeyer, MS
Michael is a Fellow with the Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders. Michael completed his graduate training at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving on to New Orleans, Louisiana where he recently completed his predoctoral internship at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. A St. Louis native, Michael is excited to return to the community and serve its members both young and old. Although Michael has completed extensive training with individuals of all ages, he has a specific interest in working with adolescents and young adults through an emotion focused framework. Michael’s research interests surround ADHD and social impairment. He anticipates defending his dissertation on the topic in the near future.
A proud graduate of the University of Alabama, Michael is an avid sports fan and enjoys watching his favorite teams, walking his dog, and eating toasted ravioli on a regular basis.
Samantha Welch, LPC
Samantha Welch is the Program Manager for the Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders (COARD) Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and is also a staff clinician. She earned her B.S. in Human Development and Family Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2018 and her M.A. in Counseling at Lindenwood University in 2021. Samantha completed her clinical internship here at the Institute with COARD’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). She also completed post-graduate and advanced graduate fellowships with COARD. She has a special interest in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Related Anxiety Disorders in children and adolescents while utilizing the following treatment modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
