What Is the Policy on Canceling Appointments and Missed Appointments?
It is our policy that you must give us at least 24 hours notice of a cancellation. If you do not, you will be charged for a missed session. The fee will be 60% of the fee for the service you were scheduled to receive.
The 24-hour notification period is a literal 24 hours. There are no exceptions to this policy. We are not making judgment as to whether the person has a good or bad reason for canceling. The reason for canceling does not waive the missed appointment fee. For example, if you call us at 2:01 p.m. and your appointment the next day is at 2:00 p.m., you will be subject to our missed session charge as this falls within the 24 hour window of notice.
- It is better to contact us than simply not show for an appointment, but please try to give us as much advanced notice as possible.
- The best way to reach us is via the Patient Portal or via phone Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- If you receive our voicemail, leave a detailed message about the cancelation. The voicemail records the date and time of your message.
If you incur a missed session fee, you will be expected to pay it in full prior to your next visit with your clinician. Insurance companies do not pay for missed sessions, and we do not bill them for these fees.
If you participate in a higher level of care at SLBMI such as an IOP/PHP, there may be a different Cancellation/Missed Session Policy for the specific program. Upon admission to a higher level of care program, you will be provided with the IOP specific policies which would supersede the standard cancelation policy above.
Do you want to appeal your missed session fee? Find more information here.
